Harbour Hotels Launches Blue Mind Retreat

A new coastal wellness experience inspired by the restorative power of the sea

As more travellers seek holidays that improve both physical and mental wellbeing, independent UK luxury hotel group Harbour Hotels has launched Blue Mind Retreat – a new coastal wellness retreat inspired by the scientifically recognised benefits of spending time by the sea.

Available across Harbour Hotels’ collection of luxury coastal hotels, the retreat combines an immersive spa ritual, cold-water therapy, nourishing dining and time by the coast. Together, these experience help reduce stress, restore balance and improve overall wellbeing.

Wellness Inspired by Blue Spaces

The Blue Mind philosophy draws on research into “blue spaces” – natural environments shaped by water. Studies have linked time spent near water with lower stress levels, improved mental health and greater emotional wellbeing. A systematic review by Britton et al. (2020) also found that spending time in blue space environments supports psychological wellbeing and aids stress recovery.

The Blue Mind Spa Ritual

At the heart of the retreat is the Blue Mind Spa Ritual – a 90-minute sensory treatment designed to recreate the body’s natural response to being near water.

The experience begins with a full-body exfoliation to stimulate circulation and prepare the skin. A skin-boosting facial follows to encourage cellular renewal and restore radiance. The ritual concludes with a tailored massage using alternating heat and cold to awaken the senses, ease muscle tension and support recovery.

“We are delighted to launch this exclusive Blue Mind treatment for Harbour Hotels. We wanted to create a truly unique treatment that celebrates the beautiful blue locations of Harbour Hotels and the restorative benefits of being near the water. This Mediterranean-inspired treatment is designed to leave you looking and feeling that ‘fresh out of the blue’ sparkle,” said Gemma Dobson, Senior Spa Business Manager at TempleSpa.

Experience the Benefits of Coastal Contrast Therapy

Guests looking to extend the benefits of the spa can also follow Harbour Hotels’ self-guided coastal contrast therapy protocol.

Developed by the Harbour Hotels spa team, the protocol is suitable for guests who are confident with cold-water immersion. It provides step-by-step guidance on transitioning safely between sauna heat and sea immersion, with recommended timings, breathing cues and recovery phases to improve circulation, speed recovery and maximise the benefits of hot-and-cold water therapy.

Reconnect with the Coast

The Blue Mind Retreat extends well beyond the spa.

Guests can explore scenic cliffside walks in the West Country and sea-air strolls along Dorset’s shoreline to sunrise views over Sussex promenades and invigorating wild swims.

Combined with the Blue Mind Spa Ritual, time spent by the sea helps activate the body’s natural rest-and-repair response, helping guests to unwind more deeply, sleep better and return home feeling calmer and more resilient.

“Water has an instinctive calming effect on the body,” said Siobhan Coston, Group Spa Manager at Harbour Hotels. “The Blue Mind Ritual mirrors that natural rhythm through touch, temperature and texture. It’s a deeply sensory experience that allows guests to switch off, release tension and reconnect with themselves.”
